WHERE IS EL MORO?

Our flamenco piece on Calo Gitano reminds us of evenings spent at Vino Libro in Atlanta and an article on the flamenco dancing there in which we also introduced the talented Kwajo Abeyie, also known as El Moro, to Grapevine readers. At the time, he was a medical student in rotations at Emory University, performing from time to time by invitation and continuing his flamenco training in New York on visits home. So we wanted to update interested readers on his present whereabouts. Here, in a letter from Kwajo, is what we found out:

My plans are to be in NYC permanently. Now that my employment status has stabilized over the past several months, I am back in a focused study mode in preparation for my final medical licensing exam, qualifying me for medical residency. Currently, I work as a Physician EMR (Electronic Medical Records) Trainer at a large multispecialty community medical practice in the South Bronx. The opportunities here are many, with the potential of returning after the completion of my residency as a full-time physician provider.

As for my flamenco endeavors, I continue to train with Jorge Navarro and in recent months trained with Sol La Argentina, Oscar Valero, Auxi Fernandez and Antonio Hidalgo. My most recent performance was in the spring time. Other than that, I took a trip to Ghana back in May....in a word, that trip was spectacular!
